Pinehurst Traffic Circle (DOT Project U-5976)
The N.C. Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting to discuss the proposal to make improvements to the Pinehurst Traffic Circle from South of Pinehurst Manor Drive to Page Road in Moore County. The purpose of the project is to improve traffic safety and operations and increase the intersection capacity and efficiency.
Project details. Videos, and maps can be found on the NCDOT project web page https://publicinput.com/pinehursttrafficcircle. The information will be available at the meeting allowing for one-on-one discussions with NCDOT staff, but there will be no formal presentation.
The meeting was held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Fair Barn, 200 Beulah Hill Road S, in Pinehurst.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation unveiled the new design for the Pinehurst Traffic Circle at the June 18, 2025 SMPO Governing Board meeting which incorporates feedback taken at the 2024 public involvement meetings. Some relevant articles are linked below.

NCDOT Prioritization
Every two years, SMPO and NCDOT will go through a process to identify and prioritize transportation projects for inclusion in the state’s next Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). This process, known as “Prioritization 8.0” for the current cycle, is directly tied to the Strategic Transportation Investments law that passed the NC General Assembly in 2013. General information about this overall process can be found on NCDOT’s website here.
This website has been established to serve as a resource and repository of information on this project prioritization and funding process within the CPRPO region. As information becomes available throughout this process, it will be added to this site to make the information widely available to the public.
We welcome your comments and feedback on the prioritization of transportation projects. Please feel free to attend any of our meetings, which are all open to the public, or write/call us. We have a time for public comment at the beginning of each TCC and Governing Board meeting or contact the MPO directly.
