New Downtown Parking Time Limits Begin July 1, 2025

On July 1, 2025, new parking time limits went into effect in key areas of downtown Pinehurst. These changes are part of a broader effort to improve parking availability, support local businesses, and enhance traffic flow throughout the Village Center.

The updated parking regulations were adopted by the Village Council on February 25, 2025, as part of Ordinance #25-04 amending Chapter 72 of the Pinehurst Municipal Code.

Summary of Changes

Time-Limited Parking Zones

The following areas will have new posted time limits:

  • Cherokee Road (South side): 1-hour parking limit in front of Given Memorial Library on weekdays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Cherokee Road (North & South sides): 3-hour parking limit from 90 to 155 Cherokee Rd.

  • Chinquapin Road (North & South sides): 3-hour parking limit between Cherokee Rd/Dogwood Rd and Magnolia Rd.

  • Dogwood Road (East & West sides): 3-hour parking limit in front of 5 Dogwood Rd.

  • Market Square (North & South sides): 3-hour parking limit for all public parking areas.

Parking Orientation Requirements

  • Vehicles over 18 feet in length are prohibited from parking in diagonal or perpendicular spaces.

  • Vehicles must park in accordance with posted signage unless a temporary exception is granted by the Village Manager for construction or special use.

Fines and Enforcement

  • Violations may result in a civil fine of up to $50.

  • In certain cases, vehicles may be towed without notice to maintain pedestrian safety and public access.

Unrestricted Public Parking Lots

To accommodate employees, long-term visitors, and others needing extended parking, two public parking lots in the Village Center will remain unrestricted and are not subject to time limits:

  • 1 Village Green Road West (The Sandlot)

  • Public lot next to the Pine Crest Inn on Dogwood Road

The Village encourages those who need longer parking durations to utilize these lots whenever possible.

Supporting Downtown Access

“These parking updates are a key part of keeping downtown Pinehurst accessible and thriving,” said Village Manager Doug Willardson. “Our goal is to support businesses and visitors by improving turnover and managing high-demand areas more effectively.”

The new parking regulations will go into effect on July 1, 2025.
