Overview:

The Senior Advisory Committee (SAC) is an advisory committee of volunteer representatives, >55 years of age, who routinely communicate and raise awareness of issues of special importance to the senior community with the Village Council and senior staff. This forum, established by the Pinehurst Village Council on 2.24.26, is convened with the intention of making Pinehurst a more “age friendly” community. A community that enables its residents to age well is, almost without exception, a community that works better for everyone. The SAC meetings are open to all. We invite attendance and participation from across the community.

Committee Goals:

Serve as a forum for communication between Village Government and senior residents.
Identify trends, needs, concerns, and opportunities affecting older adults in Pinehurst.
Promote policies, programs, and community initiatives that support independent living, accessibility, social engagement, and overall well-being for older adults.
Provide input on how Village facilities, parks, sidewalks, transportation systems, events, and communications can better reflect age-friendly design and practices.
Help the Village identify barriers—physical, social, or informational—that may limit full participation by senior residents.
Support intergenerational connection and community engagement.
Share information from SAC meetings with senior residents through effective communication channels.
Develop web-based educational and informational resources for the senior community.

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership of the SAC shall consist of up to nine (9) members, appointed by the Village Council.

Members must be permanent residents of the Village of Pinehurst or its Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) and at least 55 years of age at the time of appointment.
Membership will, to the extent practical, reflect diversity in age, neighborhoods, backgrounds, abilities, and interests within the senior population.
Members will be individually appointed by the Village Council upon recommendation by a committee consisting of the Village Manager, a member of the Village Council and designated Village staff.
The Senior Advisory Committee meets the first Monday of each month @ 3pm in Assembly Hall. The committee will not meet in July and August.
Members will be appointed to three-year terms.
Members may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.
When vacancies occur, designated Village staff will advertise and solicit applications from interested senior residents.

RELEASE AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The undersigned ("volunteer") is an adult person of sound mind who wishes to serve the Village of Pinehurst as a volunteer.

In consideration of the Village’s acceptance of the volunteer, the Village allows the volunteer to engage in volunteer activity and the volunteer does hereby acknowledge that he/she is not entitled to any Worker’s Compensation benefits, medical benefits, sick leave benefits, pension benefits, or any other benefits which accrue to employees of the Village of Pinehurst and hereby releases the Village of Pinehurst from any claims for any such benefits or for any other claim arising from the activities of the volunteer for the Village of Pinehurst.

The volunteer has read this document thoroughly and there are no other agreements, oral, or written, which are inconsistent with this document.
