The Pinehurst Police Department invites the community to Village Hall, 395 Magnolia Road, on Saturday, Sept. 12, for an afternoon of family-friendly activities supporting Special Olympics North Carolina.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature two opportunities to participate: Prints with Purpose, offering fingerprint identification cards for children, and Cover the Cruiser, a fundraiser inviting the community to help cover a Pinehurst Police vehicle with colorful icons.

During Prints with Purpose, families can have fingerprint cards created to keep as part of their child's identification records. Fingerprint cards will be available for $2 for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and $5 for students in middle school and above. The cards provide parents and caregivers with identifying information that may assist law enforcement in the event a child goes missing.

Outside Village Hall, the department will host Cover the Cruiser. For a $1 donation, participants can purchase an icon and add it to a Pinehurst Police cruiser, helping transform the vehicle into a colorful display of community support for Special Olympics athletes.

Donations will also be accepted throughout the event, and 2026 Special Olympics North Carolina shirts and hats will be available for purchase.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics North Carolina, supporting opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to train, compete and participate in year-round sports programs.

“This event gives our community two simple ways to come together for a great cause,” said Pinehurst Police Chief Glen Webb. “Families can take home something useful through the fingerprint ID program while also helping us show our support for Special Olympics athletes across North Carolina.”

The event is open to the public, and families are encouraged to stop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
