The Village of Pinehurst invites residents and visitors to celebrate America's 250th anniversary with two days of patriotic festivities while reminding the community of the Village's holiday schedule.
Village Hall, Cannon Park Community Center, Given Memorial Library and Tufts Archives, and Public Services will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
Regular business hours will resume Monday, July 6. Essential public safety services will continue without interruption.
The holiday weekend begins Friday evening with the Village's Celebrating Independence: Concert & Fireworks at the Pinehurst Harness Track, 200 Beulah Hill Road South. Gates open for parking at 4 p.m., with family activities and entertainment beginning at 6 p.m.
Children can enjoy bounce houses while The Soul Psychedelique Orchestra keeps the celebration going throughout the evening. A variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase, and picnic baskets are welcome. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m., weather permitting.
The celebration continues Saturday, July 4, with the Village's annual Independence Day Parade through the heart of Pinehurst. The pet parade steps off at 9:45 a.m., followed by the main parade at 10 a.m., featuring community organizations, businesses, decorated golf carts, patriotic displays and more.
This year's celebration holds special significance as communities across the nation commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
"Independence Day has always been one of Pinehurst's favorite traditions, and this year carries even greater meaning as our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary," said Village Manager Doug Willardson. "From the concert and fireworks to the Fourth of July parade, these events bring neighbors, families and visitors together to celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and the strong sense of community that makes Pinehurst special."
Admission to both Village events is free.
