The Village of Pinehurst is well known for being a beautiful community. The appearance of this community is very important to its residents and visitors. New residential construction or additions/alterations require certain permits before work may be performed. In addition, properties located in the Village's Local Historic District must meet the Local Historic District Standards & Guidelines, which require additional reviews and approvals.

Residential permits are required for:
- Construction of new homes
- Extension or repair of pluming, electrical, or mechanical systems
- Home additions and alterations such as: Pools, Decks, Patios, Accessory buildings/sheds, Gazebos, Trellises, Arbors, Porch enclosures, Walkways, Docks, Bulkheads, Fences, Retaining Walls, Columns, Driveways
Other permits are also required for golf carts, propane tanks, home occupations, irrigation wells, clearing, demolition, beekeeping Local Historic District (LHD), tree removal, LHD playground equipment, and LHD exterior alterations.
