Awards & Honors

Throughout the years, the Village and its various departments have been the recipients of several significant awards and honors:

  • The Pinehurst Police Department was awarded the Gold Standard Award for making a difference in the lives of over 38,000 Special Olympic athletes during the 2012 campaign (1/29/2013)
  • NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) has recognized the Village of Pinehurst as a StormReady Community (November 9, 2012)
  • Village of Pinehurst attained Level 2 of the North Carolina Awards for Excellence program that recognizes exemplary business practices at the NC League of Municipalities Conference (October 2012)
  • Village of Pinehurst receives a Level 1 Collaborative Award through the North Carolina Awards for Excellence (March 2012)
  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada for the sixth consecutive year (May 2012)
  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada for the fifth consecutive year (May 2011)
  • 2010 Outstanding North Carolina Traffic Safety Community from AAA Carolina Motor Club Foundation for Traffic Study (November 2010)
  • Pinehurst receives Intermediate "Level of Green" in the NC League of Municipalities Green Challenge that rewards local governments that meet various goals that save energy, natural resources, and money (Dec 2010) 
  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada (September 2010)
  • 2009 Life Safety Achievement Award presented to the Pinehurst Fire Department for the year 2009. This is the eighth consecutive year that PFD received this award.
  • 2009 North Carolina Traffic Safety Community of the Year from AAA Carolina Motor Club Foundation for Traffic Study (November 2009)
  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada (September 2009)
  • 2009 Certificate of Appreciation to the Pinehurst Police Department from the North Carolina Chapter of MADD.
  • 2008 North Carolina Traffic Safety Community of the Year from AAA Carolina Motor Club Foundation for Traffic Safety (November 2008)
  • 2008 Best Park of Moore County from The Pilot.
  • Special Citation Award from the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Association for Adam Crocker (November 2008)
  • 2008 Eastern North Carolina DWI Agency of the Year Award from the North Carolina Chapter of MADD.
  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada (September 2008)
  • 2007 North Carolina Traffic Safety Community of the Year from AAA Carolina Motor Club Foundation for Traffic Safety (October 2007)
  • 2007 Eastern North Carolina DWI Officer of the Year Awarded to Sgt. Raymond O. Evans from the North Carolina Chapter of MADD.
  • 2007 Hometown Hero's Award from Modern Woodmen of America
  • 2007 Best Park of Moore County from The Pilot.
  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada (October 2007)
  • Tree City USA from the Arbor Day Foundation (2006 - 2008)
  • Life Safety Achievement Award from Residential Fire Safety Institute (2003-2006)
  • 2006 North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics "Gold Level Award"
  • Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada (1992 - 2008, 16 consecutive years)
  • International Association of Fire Chief's Award of Excellence from International Association of Fire Chiefs (August 2004)
  • 1996 North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program "Certificate of Appreciation"
  • National Historic Landmark from the U.S. Department of the Interior (June 1996)
